Choobee-Human Relationship

Even though Choobees are sometimes common to see at pet shops, wild Choobees tend to 'pick' a human.
Wild Choobees aren't very different from the already tamed ones, they just have a different diet from the one given by humans.
How does a Choobee pick a human?
Every living thing in the world has magic, most don't acknowledge that themselves, same happens to humans.
Choobees are capable of seeing the magic in other living beings, often focusing more in humans as they see them as more able to 'control' what surrounds them. Choobees sense a person's magic, if its the same as their own, they'll start following the human.
A human can 'own' more than one Choobee, as humans have a less detailed magic, some Choobees get with a similar type of it will follow the human.
Sometimes, the human won't like the idea of having a Choobee at home. But as they're easy to take care of, don't need much space, and are great companions, humans get used to them easily.

A Choobee might try to 'unleash' a person's magic once having lived with them for an extended period of time. Often helping them to develop abilities such as telepathy and the ability to 'see' the world in the way the Choobees do.

Communication

Choobees aren't capable of speaking like humans, but like other animals, they make noises.
The kind of noises Choobees usually make are the ones they can mimic, they're capable of imitating almost any animal, and can make similar noises to words from humans, but aren't able to make a sentence to communicate.
For example, if the human they live with owns a bird, and if the bird often sings, the Choobee will eventually start singing as a bird too.
They're very expressive creatures so if they need anything or try to tell you something you can tell pretty quickly what they need.
